Ridley Scott’s masterpiece of sci-fi horror returns to the Tyneside, handpicked by Ella from the Operations Team!

The unassuming crew of the spaceship Nostromo, enroute home to Earth, are diverted from their course by a distress signal from a nearby moon. Stopping to investigate, they discover the remains of a derelict alien ship – and, in the process of examining the ruined craft, inadvertently trigger the birth of one of the most terrifying movie monsters in cinematic history.

Since its 1979 release, Alien has gained critical acclaim and an astronomical fan base with its skilful blend of genres, combining the tension and mystery of a thriller with the creeping dread of a Lovecraftian horror story, with enough chest-bursting gore to satisfy most slasher-flick fans.

It was also ground-breaking in its approach to characterisation, with every character deliberately written by screenwriters Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett as unisex. This led to Sigourney Weaver being cast as the iconic Ripley: Weaver’s first leading role in a motion picture.

Her portrayal of the grittily-determined, unbreakable officer of the Nostromo launched Weaver to stardom and made Ellen Ripley one of the most lauded and loved female protagonists in cinema.
