Set in the ramshackle office of one of Tokyo’s inconspicuous, low-rent escort services, Life: Unititled lays bare the lives of call girls who work there.

Kana Yamada

In between waiting for their next clients, visits to local brothels and everyday distractions, the lives and unfolding relationships begin to emerge.

Although the maternal Kano (Sairi Itoh) tries her best to defuse any potential drama, the already precarious stability is thrown into disarray when a new girl joins the business.

This feature film debut from Kana Yamada (head of the ROJI9 theatre company) is an adaptation of her own stage play. Offering an alternative to reductive stereotypes that plague the sex industry, Yamada offers a more nuanced and humanistic view.

This film is screening at Tyneside Cinema as part of The Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme 2022 which you can learn more about here!
