Advisory 18

A gas-mask-wearing figure, known as the Assassin, explores a subterranean labyrinth of urban decay inhabited by faceless drones and nightmarish creatures. Merging the corroded artefacts of the cyberpunk aesthetic with imaginatively monstrous horror, Mad God feels like the gloriously demonic offspring of Jan Ŝvankmajer and Ray Harryhausen projected into a bleakly nocturnal universe.

Having provided iconic effects for Star Wars, Robocop and Jurassic Park, Tippett now presents a genre masterpiece thirty years in the making. Not only does Tippett’s disturbing epic have the feel of an instant cult classic, but it also presents a technically jaw-dropping milestone in the possibilities for stop-motion animation.
