Simon (Cavan Clerkin) is a man frustrated with his life, working in a telesales job that he hates and seemingly unable to stop his marriage crumbling around him. Into the breach steps Terry (Craig Fairbrass, brilliantly upending the macho persona he established in films like Rise of the Footsoldier), a personal trainer who promises to build Simon’s confidence and help him take control of his life.

Their obsessive workout routine initially works wonders. But Simon’s feeling like a new man soon gives way to supreme unease as he and Terry grow closer, their increasingly co-dependent relationship and extra-curricular activities taking them into strange terrain.

Shot in crisp black and white and featuring an incredible score from legendary British band The The, Muscle is one the most unique black comedies that the UK has produced in recent years, all the more essential for recognisably being shot on location in Newcastle.
