Down-on-his-luck curmudgeon football coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender) has one last shot of a future in sports management – taking under his wing the American Samoa team.

Infamous for their 31-0 defeat against Australia in the 2001 World Cup, they have a very simple mission – to score a goal.

Begrudgingly taking on the seemingly impossible task, Thomas begins to be transformed by the wonderfully eclectic team – including wise head of the football federation Tavita (Oscar Kightley, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) and trailblazing faʻafafine (third gender) player Jaiyah Saelua (Kaimana).

Fizzing with Taika Waititi’s signature wit, this feel-good overcoming-of-odds comedic crowd pleaser was co-written with celebrated British writer Iain Morris (The Inbetweeners).

A joyous stranger-than-fiction true story, this life-affirming, Ted Lasso-esque underdog charmer is a back-of-the-net hit.
