In WWII, American scientists race against the Nazis to develop the ultimate weaponry deterrent to turn the tide of the war. Leading the efforts on the Manhattan Project is physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), who posits that the development of the very first nuclear weapons is the only chance of prevailing peace. After recruiting the country’s top scientists for the momentous development, a test site town is built in the remote Los Alamos desert. But Oppenheimer soon realises that his potentially cataclysmic enterprise is a point of no return for the entire world; risking armageddon for the creation of the atomic bomb.

A pulse-racing biographical blockbuster towering in scale, Oppenheimer is yet another sprawling masterpiece from the revered Christopher Nolan. Nolan’s trademark of assembling prestigious ensemble casts continues with a star-studded supporting cast, including Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Kenneth Branagh and Matt Damon. Championing astonishing practical effects, and photographed on a stunning mix of IMAX 65mm and black-and-white analogue film, this is an extraordinary feat of filmmaking which dramatises a key turning point in the history of the world.
