Plastic China is a documentary focusing on an unschooled 11-year-old girl whose family works and lives in a typical plastic waste household-recycling workshop. As much as her life is poor and distorted, she’s truly a global child who learns of the outside world from the waste workshop in which her family live and work – also known as the “United Nations of Plastic Waste”.

Curated by the Chinese Independent Film Network UK, Newcastle University and supported by UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Earth in Crisis showcases a series of Chinese eco-documentary films foregrounding the growing ecological emergency facing our planet. It will bring award-winning directors to independent cinemas across the UK to present and discuss their work.
