Palliative care nurse Maud (an incredible Morfydd Clark, Starve Acre) moves into the home of dying patient Amanda (Jennifer Ehle, Pride & Prejudice).

Soon her faith, loneliness and some lingering past trauma is driving her to become obsessed with saving her patient’s soul. Or is it the voice of God talking to her?

Held together by two magnetic central performances, atmospheric use of the film’s Scarborough setting, and a supremely confident conflation of film genres, Saint Maud is by turns a riveting character study as well as the year’s most confident, high class horror picture.
