The phrase ‘spaghetti code’ refers to a state of being that is unwieldy, unstructured and unpredictable. Appropriate, then, that Spaghetti Code Love follows a sprawling tale of fragile young lives under the existential pressures of ambition and love, while weaving in and out of multiple perspectives.

Takeshi Maruyama

Among thirteen individual stories, this expansive gathering of narrative(s) follows: Shingo (Hiroya Shimizu), who has garnered mass popularity on Facebook but seems to have no real friends; Cocoro (Toko Miura), a former aspiring musician, who spends much of her time with friends she doesn’t actually like; and Momoko (Mutsumi Sato) who, after suffering heartbreak, becomes addicted to fortune telling on her mobile phone.

First-time feature director, Takeshi Maruyama’s Spaghetti Code Love is a sumptuous feast for the eyes with high praise from critics and audiences alike.

This film is screening at Tyneside Cinema as part of The Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme 2022 which you can learn more about here!
