The iconoclastic character-actor Udo Kier (Suspiria, Iron Sky, Bacurau) has had a lifetime of uniquely eccentric roles, it’s therefore a testament to the vision of this bittersweet comedy that Pat Pitsenbarger – a flamboyant ex-hairdresser and one-time lynchpin of the local gay community – is perhaps one of his most memorable screen performances to date.

Living out his twilight years in the dreary routines of a care home, Pat (Udo Kier) is shaken out of its isolating tedium by the arrival of an unexpected request: a wealthy former client from his hairdressing days states in her will that Pat should prepare her hair and makeup in one last, posthumous, act of glamour.

Breaking out from the care home, his unlikely quest as ‘the Liberace of Sandusky’ begins…

Suffused with tenderness and melancholy, the drama unfolds as both an off-kilter character study and an affectionate tribute to the difficulties, joys and fierce spirit of queer endurance.

Co-starring the radiant Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie), Swan Song is a glorious, deadpan celebration of flamboyance in the face of oppression and, just as importantly, features one of the most memorable dance sequences of recent years!
