Shot in a semi-documentary style and featuring a cast of highly talented non-professional actors, The Great Movement centres on the challenges faced by young manual worker, Elder when he travels to La Paz in search of employment.
When Elder is struck down by an unexplained life-threatening illness after participating in a protest march for worker’s rights in the city, he and his friends accept help from a mysterious herbalist who promises to cure him with magical concoctions.
Plunging the viewer into the complex social fabric of one of South America’s most densely populated cities, The Great Movement brings into sharp focus the exceptional story-telling talents and unique filmmaking style for which Russo is known, loved, and repeatedly praised.
Coming to Tyneside Cinema on 13 May 2022.
