To mark 70 years since the publication of George Orwell's 1984, we're screening a selection of films indebted to the seminal dystopian novel.

From the legendary filmmaker John Carpenter, based Ray Nelson’s 1963 short story Eight O’Clock in the Morning, They Live is a sci-fi horror, exploring how illusions sustain political power.

The film follows Nada (Roddy Piper), a man who finds a pair of black sunglasses with unexpected powers – through them one can see the true world. As it turns out, Los Angeles is filled with skull-faced aliens who have overtaken the government, got hold of media and now feed the population with numerous subliminal messages to spend money, breed and submit to the authority.
