Few contemporary filmmakers are as adept at balancing attention to detail and technical prowess with genuine emotional heft as Academy Award-winning filmmaker Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water).
His take on Shelley’s masterpiece movingly captures the sense of isolation and yearning, while creating a fugue of dread and elemental horror. Goth is outstanding as Elizabeth and Elordi delivers a heart-stealing performance as the monster.

Screening as part of our “It’s Alive!!!” thematic season – notes by Jay Hildreth:
And finally comes the film to tie this all together; Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, a highly anticipated take from the modern king of the creature feature, known for his incredible practical effects and character designs to make each film unique with their own notable identities.
Whether that be the horrifying Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth, the Creature From The Black Lagoon Gillman inspired character in The Shape of Water or even rogue anti-hero Hellboy and his band of monsters, each of these character images live in your mind from the moment you’ve seen them, very much in a similar vein to the original Jack Pierce designed creature.
After a successful run around the festival circuit including Venice, Toronto and London, Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein will be screening in the place it truly belongs; the cinema.
