This 1979 gothic horror masterpiece from legendary German director Werner Herzog (Fitzcarraldo, Grizzly Man, Aguirre, Wrath of God) is an extraordinary take on F.W. Murnau’s 1922 classic.

Starring Herzog’s regular collaborator Klaus Kinski (naturally) as Count Dracula, Isabelle Adjani (Possession) as Lucy Harker and Bruno Ganz (Downfall) as Jonathan Harker, the real estate agent whose visit to Transylvania sparks Dracula’s terrible quest, Nosferatu the Vampyre is supremely atmospheric, seductive work of exquisite horror.

A faithful reimagining of Murnau’s original, Herzog’s film nevertheless has a tone and atmosphere all of its own. Popul Vuh’s ethereal music builds a mesmerising undercurrent, which combined with Herzog’s rich visuals creates one of horror and world cinema’s most hypnotic experiences, and one of its director’s greatest films.
