October 11th, 1975. New York City. On this night, television history will be made with the live broadcast of the very first SNL, with the careers of its extensive comedic ensemble – including Dan Aykroyd (Dylan O’Brien), Chevy Chase (Cory Michael Smith), Gilda Radner (Ella Hunt), John Belushi (Matt Wood), Andy Kaufman (Nicholas Braun – who also appears as Muppets legend Jim Henson) and Billy Crystal (Nicholas Podany) – set to hit the stratosphere.
Not before, however, its young maverick creator Lorne Michaels (Gabriel LaBelle, The Fabelmans) sets out to pull of the impossible, wrangling the egos of its soon-to-be iconic stars and cold-footed studio execs alike as the clock ticks down to showtime…
Unfolding in heart-pounding, unrelentingly stressful real-time, this hilariously frantic tribute to the stuff of comedy legend is made with reverential love by its director Jason Reitman (Juno) and co-writer Gil Kenan (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), rounded off with an uncannily note-perfect supporting cast which includes Rachel Sennott (Shiva Baby, Bottoms) and Willem Defoe (The Lighthouse, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice).
