The Tyneside Cinema proudly welcomes a new female majority Board of Trustees, marking a major step in strengthening its charity mission and cultural impact across the North East.

We are excited to introduce our new Board of Trustees at The Tyneside Cinema as we move closer to our 90th anniversary in 2027! This new female-majority board brings together an extraordinary group of leaders with deep roots in the North East and a shared passion for cinema and social impact. Their appointment represents a significant milestone in strengthening governance and reinforcing our commitment as a registered charity dedicated to serving the local community through film and culture.

At the helm is our new Chair, Steph Edusei, Chief Executive of St Oswald’s Hospice, whose trailblazing leadership in the region’s cultural and charitable sectors signals a bold new chapter for The Tyneside. Her vision promises to deepen community connections and inspire future-facing growth.

Alongside Steph, a dynamic team of professionals from across film, television, business, and charity sectors bring their diverse expertise to guide our charity cinema into the future. These include Lindsey Adams, founder and creative lead of Daily Madness Productions; Deborah Evans, head of business transformation at Advance Northumberland; Emma Lawson, TV executive and commissioning editor at BBC Comedy; Elaine Taylor, ecommerce and digital marketing leader at Pure Fishing; and Erinn Roocroft, senior TV production executive at Apple TV+.

The board also welcomes back Sean Nicolson, an investor and director of regional organisations; cultural consultant Iain Watson OBE DL; Iain Wright, chief policy and communications officer at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales; and Nicola Short MBA, a professional coach and marketing manager at Soil Machine Dynamics.

Supporting the board’s oversight, Claire Hubbert and Damian Lobb form our new audit and risk committee, while Gagan Jagpal joins as director of our Trading Company with Andy Hook as board observer.

Our CEO, Nic Greenan, sums up this exciting development: “What makes this moment so powerful is that it’s not just about governance, it’s about vision… Together, we’re laying the groundwork for a future where Tyneside is a space for the next generation of creative talent.”

As a registered charity, The Tyneside Cinema is more than a place to watch films – it is a vibrant cultural hub committed to accessibility, education, and community engagement. The new board’s leadership will ensure that our charity mission continues to thrive, supporting local filmmakers, hosting inclusive events, and making cinema a welcoming space for all. With this inspiring team in place, The Tyneside is poised to remain at the heart of the North East’s cultural landscape for decades to come.

Please join us in warmly welcoming our new Board of Trustees and stay tuned for exciting updates as we approach our 90th anniversary and continue to grow as a charity cinema dedicated to social impact through film.
