Dr. Bill Harford (Cruise) and his wife Alice (Kidman) return home from a Christmas party where they each experience an attempted seduction from guests. After smoking marijuana the following evening, Alice admits to having a sexual fantasy about a man she once met. Unable to shake off his jealousy, Bill explores his own temptations, leading him to an enigmatic orgy that haunts him the day after.
Inspired by the novel Traumnovelle by Arthur Schnitzle, Kubrick last film explores the sexual insecurities of a married man with a story that descends into paranoia, doubt and obsession. Although not your usual stereotypical festive picture, Eyes Wide Shut gained status of being the Christmas film of 1999.
