Set in post-partition India, Garm Hava follows a Muslim businessman and his family as they struggle in the fight for their rights while living in a country which was once their own.
This film is a cinematic gem not to be missed, which commemorates 78 years since the partition and respectfully celebrates the millions of South Asians globally – especially those that migrated to the UK during this time of unrest.
Garm Hava, although a 1974 film, is still so relevant today.
The biggest mass migration in history was the Partition of India in 1947, which resulted in the displacement of an estimated 18 to 20 million people and the impact is felt by South Asians globally even now.
A moving and emotional film told beautifully, Garm Hava earned a Cannes Film Festival nomination, and won three Filmfare Awards for Best Story, Best Screenplay and Best Dialogue Writer.
