Step into a modern reimagining of Trimalchio’s Dinner Party from the 1st-century AD Roman work of fiction, The Satyricon by Gaius Petronius. Poet and writer Kirsten Luckins brings the story to life for a contemporary audience, with contributions from 6th-form students across the region.
Performed by professional actors and directed by Cinzia Hardy, the performance unfolds around you as you enjoy a full afternoon tea in Tyneside Cinema’s historic Coffee Rooms. Dr Kathryn Tempest, Lecturer in Roman History at Leicester University, will introduce the original text, giving context to the playful and chaotic dinner party.
The afternoon concludes with a special screening of Satyricon (1969), written and directed by Federico Fellini, connecting Roman fiction to its cinematic reinterpretation.
