This August, Tyneside Cinema is incredibly proud to be part of the NOVUM Summer Festival, a vibrant three-day cultural takeover turning our city centre into a massive playground of creativity, entertainment, and joyful chaos.
From 7–9 August, #NOVUM26 will bring the streets alive with a packed family-friendly programme of outdoor spectacles, live music, silent discos, and immersive art.
The best part? The vast majority of the festival events are completely FREE to attend, making it the perfect weekend adventure for culture vultures and families alike. As a proud partner, Tyneside Cinema is hosting a very special event that bridges the magic of the silver screen with the festival’s most anticipated spectacle, Dominoes Newcastle.
A Special Screening: The Brutalist – Sunday 9th August at 12:00
To celebrate the spirit of the festival, we are hosting an exclusive screening of The Brutalist. This powerful film has been hand-picked especially for this occasion by lead artist Julian Maynard Smith.
It’s the ultimate cinematic prelude to Sunday’s main event, exploring themes of architectural scale, structure, and human connection just hours before those exact concepts spill out onto the pavement outside our doors.
The Grand Finale: Dominoes Newcastle – Sunday 9th August at 16:30
Dominoes is a true NOVUM showstopper. Built by a dedicated team of hundreds of local volunteers, a massive moving sculpture made of thousands of breeze blocks will wind its way through Newcastle’s historic streets, public spaces, and hidden corners.
At 4:30 PM, the first block will fall, triggering an extraordinary, breathtaking chain reaction that physically and symbolically connects different neighbourhoods, landmarks, and communities. It promises to be a joyous disruption and a “you just had to be there” moment you won’t want to miss.
