Whether you’re interested in the creative, technical or business side of film and television, we connect young people aged 16 to 25 with training opportunities, industry connections and career support closer to home.

As a member of your local hub, you’ll have access to hands-on introductory film courses, networking opportunities, year-round activities and personalised support to help you build skills, grow your confidence and take your next step towards a career in screen.

BFI Film Academy is a free, UK-wide training programme for 16-25 year olds looking to get started in the film and TV industry. It offers a hands-on, collaborative filmmaking experience, with a strong focus on developing technical and transferable skills.

BFI Film Academy Hub North East provides a free, welcoming local space for young people aged 16 to 25 living in the North East to develop skills, meet industry professionals and access career support.

The BFI Film Academy Hub North East will offer hands-on introductory film courses, networking opportunities and personalised support, helping you build skills, confidence and connections in the industry.

Through year-round activities and dedicated support, local hubs provide an ongoing pathway into film, TV and the wider screen industries.

BFI Film Academy Intro Courses

 

BFI Film Academy Intro Courses train and inspire aspiring filmmakers aged 16-19. Over the course of several weeks, participants learn about the film industry, hear from expert mentors and get the chance to create their own short film from start to finish.

Intro Courses will be available across the North East, delivered by leading arts organisations who can help you break into the film industry, including:

–   Jack Drum Arts
–   Writer’s Block North East

 

BFI Film Academy North East is delivered by Tyneside Cinema, supported by the UK Government and National Lottery funding.
