Irving Berlin’s lushly-scored 1954 holiday screen classic White Christmas is coming to Tyneside Cinema. Directed by Michael Curtiz (Casablanca), White Christmas  includes such Berlin classics as “Sisters,” “Snow,” “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep,” and the enduring title song.

Singers Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) and Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) join sister act Betty (Rosemary Clooney) and Judy Haynes (Vera-Ellen) to perform a Christmas show in rural Vermont. There, they run into Gen. Waverly (Dean Jagger), the boys’ commander in World War II, who, they learn, is having financial difficulties; his quaint country inn is failing. So what’s the foursome to do but hope for a yuletide miracle? The plan? A fun-filled musical extravaganza that’s sure to put Waverly and his business in the black!

A Christmas classic, best enjoyed with a mulled wine and a mince pie!

Screening as part of BFI Musicals! The Greatest Show on Screen, a UK-wide film season supported by National Lottery, BFI Film Audience Network and ICO. bfimusicals.co.uk
