In June 2025, Larry Lamb visited Newcastle for a special one-night event at Tyneside Cinema, as part of his UK-wide book tour promoting his debut novel, All Wrapped Up.

Best known for his roles in Gavin & Stacey, EastEnders, and New Tricks, Larry Lamb took to the stage in our historic cinema to share personal anecdotes, reflect on his decades in the TV and film industry, and give audiences a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of filmmaking.

The tour began in Billericay and concluded in Barry Island, a route that cheekily nods to the beloved geography of Gavin & Stacey, where Larry’s character Mick Shipman became a national treasure. At Tyneside Cinema, the only North East stop on the tour, Larry brought warmth, wit, and insight to a crowd of film lovers, industry professionals, and long-time fans.

The evening included a conversation with the actor, a Q&A session, and an exclusive book signing, with a pre-show meet and greet option for guests eager to speak with Larry in person.

All Wrapped Up, Larry’s debut novel, is a fast-paced, character-driven thriller set during a chaotic film shoot on a politically unstable Caribbean island. It follows Killian Wilde, a battle-hardened first assistant director determined to hold his production together against impossible odds.

Drawing from Larry’s own experiences in film and television, the novel offers a gripping portrayal of the challenges faced by crews behind the scenes—navigating egos, politics, and even mysterious disappearances.

“The book is about the real working people behind the scenes on a film set – the unsung heroes,” Larry said during the event. “Tyneside Cinema is a fantastic example of a place that supports local access to film and celebrates cinema in all its forms.”

Larry’s appearance in Newcastle followed his recent role filming The Feud – a Channel 5 thriller shot in the region, in which he starred opposite Jill Halfpenny.

“I was delighted to discover such a thriving TV, film, and arts hub in the area,” he said. “It felt right to return to the North East to talk about a book that’s rooted in the realities of film production.”

An Evening with Larry Lamb was more than a promotional stop – it was a celebration of cinema storytelling, the craft of filmmaking, and the enduring relationship between screen culture and the North East. Events like this underscore The Tyneside’s commitment to connecting audiences with the stories, talents, and voices that shape our screens – on and off camera.
