Trash at the Tyneside Print

In 1990, Tyneside Cinema went for a ride on the wild side of exploitation cinema with a long weekend of titillating trash to counteract the film programme’s usual fare. On display were the likes of Dementia 13, Cry Baby, and a lot of Russ Meyer. This print proudly showcases not only a piece of our programming past but our embrace of the weird and wonderful world of cult cinema.

Through June and July of 1978, Tyneside Cinema hosted the Newcastle Film Festival with an electric line-up of films that depicted future worlds, with all the wonder and terror that Science Fiction can so brilliantly capture. Christmas at Tyneside Cinema wouldn’t be the same without Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life warming the hearts of everyone who comes through our doors. In the Winter of 1983, the cinema played a collection of Classic films called Mr. Capra Comes to Town, titled as a nod to the director’s film Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, and featuring a drawing of the one and only James Stewart.  Designed by R.L. The Official Version Print

In December 1985, Tyneside Cinema hosted the North East premiere of Argentinian historical drama The Official Version. The highly regarded film went on to be the first Latin American film to with the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This poster was designed to promote the film’s short run here at the Tyneside 40 years ago.
