A new quarterly showcase celebrating short-form filmmaking from across the North East.

Four times a year, we’ll present four standout short films from around the North East on the big screen - a curated mix of emerging voices and established talent, across drama, documentary, animation, experimental work and everything in between. Each screening will be followed by a conversation with industry professionals, offering audiences a unique insight into the craft and creators a chance to connect, learn and grow.

4×4 at The Tyneside is a brand-new programme dedicated to spotlighting bold, brilliant short-form content created in and around the North East.

This time round, our featured films will be:

  • Jammy, by Lainya Craig – A struggling baker’s life takes a turn after a violent confrontation which awakens a hunger for justice.

 

  • Temperance, by Paul Anderson – A 1920s gangster discovers that it ain’t so easy keeping on top of a world that isn’t what it seems.

 

  • Giants, by Andy Berriman – A subversive retelling of Cervantes’ Don Quixote – isolated teenager Sandy finds unexpected purpose after meeting conspiracy theorist Don, who tasks him with destroying a local wind farm in Cambois, North Blyth.

 

  • Tusky, by Steven Boyle – Rhubarb farmer Harry Bamford spent his working life growing and perfecting his prize-winning crop. Now long retired and under the care of his struggling wife Joyce, Harry begins to experience vivid and disturbing hallucinations.
