Music Video Preservation Society is an event that highlights the astonishing creativity and cultural influence of music videos through the decades, with an eclectic programme featuring some of the most iconic and visually inventive pop promos ever made, spanning from the 1970s to the 2020s.
MVPS host David Knight, the country’s foremost music video commentator, will host the inaugural meeting of Music Video Preservation Society at the Tyneside, with special guest Semera Khan. Semera is a real VIP of British music videos with a strong connection to the area, having masterminded and directed music videos for one of the UK’s biggest artists, who also happens to be a proper local hero – Sam Fender! Samera has worked closely with Sam since he signed to the label in 2018 and has commissioned and overseen all of his videos since then.
Semera is Director of Creative at Polydor Records, a video commissioner and creative director on music video campaigns for The Rolling Stones, Lana Del Rey, The 1975, Michael Kiwanuka, James Blake and many more.
It is very exciting to welcome Semera to talk about the videos she has made with Sam Fender and to show several of them on the big screen. But that’s not all. There will be more classic videos that Semera has commissioned, plus a range of work from at least five decades of music video history, from the iconic to the ingenious to less well-known gems. More local heroes featured too!
Inspiring, informative, joyful and jaw-dropping – and quite nostalgic – we will be giving some great music videos the big screen treatment they deserve on 14th May, so don’t miss it.
