S.O.U.L. Fest Shorts brings together a showcase of North East filmmaking talent alongside a selection of official S.O.U.L. Fest competition shorts, followed by a filmmaker Q&A hosted by journalist, author and broadcaster Ellen E. Jones.
The programme features local short films including The Podfather by Mannie Obot, The Digital Dancefloor Documentary: How Social Media is Affecting DJ and Nightlife Culture by Helen C. N. Evans, Me My Music & Mental Health: A Story by Shocka by Silvio Martinez, and Jams by Jeremiah “Mansah” Abu-undiyaundeye.
Delivered in partnership with S.O.U.L. Fest, the acclaimed BAFTA and BIFA-qualifying Black film festival, this event marks a significant moment for audiences in the region, bringing one of the UK’s leading platforms for Black filmmakers to Newcastle and creating new opportunities for connection, conversation and cultural exchange.
Now in its eighth edition, S.O.U.L. Fest has established itself as a vital showcase for emerging and established Black filmmakers, sharing authentic stories and increasing visibility for Black creatives across the screen industries.
