To his surprise he discovers the truth of his own people – and where he least expects it – he finds true love.

About Stephen Mottram

A summer season with the Bramall Marionette Company in Colwyn Bay, two years with the DaSilvas at Norwich Puppet Theatre, an Arts Council bursary to study mime and movement, and a period at the Hungarian State Puppet Theatre School in Budapest all led Stephen into making his first show, In Suspension in 1986.

Since then, his work has developed into a unique theatre language which exploits the relationship between electro-acoustic music and the movement-image. His best-known shows are The Seed Carriers, The Seas of Organillo and The Parachute. Altogether, these performances have been seen by adult audiences in 45 countries.

He has also worked on films including The Little Shop of Horrors and Tales from the Decameron and was one of the main puppet operators on Strings.

Stephen teaches string puppetry at the Institut de la Marionnette in Charleville Mézières, France, and Academia MAAF in Pinerolo, Italy. He recently led a course in puppet movement at the Beijing Central Academy of Drama.
